Arrest made in Christmas evening drive-by shooting in Salinas

Deputies from the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office arrested a suspect in connection with a drive-by shooting that took place on Christmas evening in the Boronda area of Salinas, California. The incident occurred on December 25, 2025, at around 5:20 p.m., when deputies responded to reports of gunfire in the 400 block of Cranford Road. Upon arrival, authorities found that several vehicles and an occupied residence had been struck by bullets fired from a passing vehicle. No injuries were reported.

After conducting an investigation, detectives identified Leandro Rocha, 24, of Castroville as the suspect. He was taken into custody and booked into the Monterey County Jail.

“I want to thank our detectives for their continued dedication to this investigation,” said Monterey County Sheriff Tina Nieto. “Even during the holidays, they remained focused on this and other cases to help keep our community safe, and their efforts were instrumental in making this arrest.”

Rocha faces charges under PC 246 for shooting at an inhabited dwelling or occupied vehicle and PC 186.22(a) for active participation in a criminal street gang. The sheriff’s office indicated that additional charges and enhancements may be added as the investigation continues.
