Representative Jimmy Panetta, who serves California’s 19th district in the U.S. Congress, recently addressed several issues on his social media account, focusing on agriculture, education funding, and military family welfare.
On October 4, 2025, Panetta highlighted the importance of California’s agricultural sector and ongoing efforts to protect it. He stated: “California’s dairy and cattle make our state a global ag powerhouse. I’m working with a bipartisan group in Congress to increase USDA surveillance of the New World screwworm to protect livestock in CA-19 and our country’s food supply.”
Later that day, Panetta voiced opposition to proposed funding cuts for Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSIs) by the Department of Education. In his post he wrote: “Proud to join my colleagues to oppose the Department of Education’s funding cuts for Hispanic Serving Institutions. HSIs create opportunities for students across CA-19. It’s time to restore funding for our institutions.” This statement comes amid broader national debates about federal support for minority-serving educational institutions.
On October 5, 2025, Panetta turned attention to military families facing food insecurity during government shutdowns. He said: “Food insecurity among military families is already at low levels, and the government shutdown will only exacerbate this. My Military Food Security Act ensures the Basic Needs Allowance serves our food-insecure servicemembers.”
Panetta has represented California’s 19th District since 2017 after succeeding Sam Farr in Congress. Born in Washington D.C. in 1969 and currently residing in Carmel Valley, Panetta holds degrees from UC Davis (BA) and Santa Clara University (JD).
