Rep. Jimmy Panetta, U.S. Congressman representing California’s 19th district since 2017, has recently used his social media platform to address several issues ranging from domestic politics to international affairs and local community tributes.
On October 9, 2025, Panetta criticized the current administration’s use of federal agencies by stating: “This Administration continues to weaponize the DOJ against his political opponents to stifle dissent. I urge our leaders to join me in calling out this behavior as unacceptable and un-American.”
Addressing ongoing conflicts in the Middle East, Panetta posted on October 10, 2025: “All parties must quickly implement the first phase of the agreement to release the hostages and stop hostilities in Gaza. That’s the foundation to the necessary work towards negotiating the details for the execution of the full plan that includes overwhelming humanitarian aid to” The statement calls for immediate action on a peace agreement as a step toward broader humanitarian relief.
Later that day, Panetta paid tribute to a local figure: “Ted Walter dedicated his life not only to feeding Monterey County but to our environment. His passion for a sustainable food supply has left a lasting mark on the Monterey Peninsula, CA-19, and beyond. We are grateful for his example, and my thoughts are with his loved ones.” This message highlights Walter’s contributions both locally and environmentally.
Panetta was born in Washington, D.C., in 1969 and currently resides in Carmel Valley. He graduated from UC Davis with a BA in 1991 before earning a JD from Santa Clara University in 1996. He succeeded Sam Farr as representative of California’s 19th congressional district.
