U.S. Congressman Jimmy Panetta, who represents California’s 19th district, recently posted a series of statements on social media addressing education funding, immigration oversight, and reproductive health care in California.
On July 26, 2025, Panetta commented on the release of federal education funds: “After weeks of Congressional pressure, the Administration is releasing nearly $7 billion in frozen education funds, including $928 million for California. That’s a big win for our students, but it never should’ve come to this. I pushed hard for this reversal because school”.
Later that day, Panetta discussed his oversight visit to an immigration detention facility: “I traveled to the largest ICE detention center in California to conduct oversight and ensure detainees are afforded due process. The Administration’s sweeping deportation policies demand more accountability and this type of action.”
On July 27, he addressed the closure of a Planned Parenthood clinic in Santa Cruz: “The closure of the Westside Planned Parenthood clinic in Santa Cruz is a direct result of the Administration’s Medicaid cuts targeting reproductive care. These attacks on women’s health care are deliberate, and we must work together to reverse them.”
Panetta has served as a member of Congress since 2017 after succeeding Sam Farr. He was born in Washington D.C. in 1969 and currently resides in Carmel Valley. Panetta holds degrees from the University of California, Davis (BA) and Santa Clara University (JD).
