U.S. Congressman Jimmy Panetta, who represents California’s 19th district, addressed a series of current political issues in recent social media posts. Panetta, a member of Congress since 2017 and a resident of Carmel Valley, expressed concerns about First Amendment rights, partisan redistricting efforts, and public health policy.
On September 19, 2025, Panetta wrote on X: “Freedom of speech and the press are a cornerstone of our democracy. The Administration continues to try to suppress those rights, and the suspension of Jimmy Kimmel shows how it is trying to chill protected speech. I’ll continue to stand up for the First Amendment.” He made these remarks amid ongoing national debates regarding freedom of expression.
Later that day, he addressed the issue of congressional redistricting by stating: “The Administration is pushing state legislatures to gerrymander their congressional districts. That is why I’m fighting for the Redistricting Reform Act to end partisan gerrymandering.”
In another post from September 19, Panetta commented on federal public health policy: “When the federal government turns its back on science, states must step up. I support California and the West Coast alliance for keeping COVID vaccines accessible, guided by doctors and data, not politics. Public health should always put people first.”
Panetta was born in Washington D.C. in 1969 and holds degrees from UC Davis and Santa Clara University. He has publicly supported legislation aimed at redistricting reform and emphasized his commitment to science-based public health measures.
