Representative Jimmy Panetta, who serves California’s 19th district in the U.S. Congress, addressed a range of issues affecting his constituents and federal policy in a series of posts on October 4, 2025.
In his first post at 16:40 UTC, Panetta commented on the ongoing government shutdown and its impact on federal employees. He called for bipartisan negotiation to resolve the impasse, stating, “Continue to talk about the impacts of the shutdown on federal workers, and the need for Republicans, who are in charge of the House, Senate, and White House, to negotiate with Democrats. It’s time to reopen our government, protect our healthcare, and take back Congress’s” (October 4, 2025).
Later that day at 17:55 UTC, Panetta shared an example of constituent services provided by his office. He wrote about assisting a resident with tax refund issues: “A constituent reached out to me for assistance after not receiving her 2023 and 2024 tax refunds. I was able to assist with verifying her wages earned for both tax years, resulting in her receiving both refunds. In total, she received $5,855.67. I am proud to help put money” (October 4, 2025).
At 19:07 UTC on the same day, Panetta expressed support for a recent decision by local officials regarding Immigration and Customs Enforcement procedures in San Jose. He stated: “I 100% support the City of San Jose’s decision to require ICE agents to remove face coverings and identify themselves. I’m committed to public safety and supporting transparency with legislation in Congress to ban face coverings by ICE agents during non-undercover operations.” (October 4, 2025).
Panetta has represented California’s 19th District since replacing Sam Farr in Congress in 2017. Born in Washington D.C., he is currently based in Carmel Valley and holds degrees from UC Davis (BA) and Santa Clara University (JD). His recent statements reflect ongoing debates over government operations during shutdowns as well as local measures related to law enforcement transparency.
