Rep. Jimmy Panetta, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing California’s 19th district, shared his thoughts on several topics through a series of tweets on June 19 and 20, 2025. His posts addressed significant issues such as the commemoration of Juneteenth, the legacy of a local public servant, and concerns over federal disaster resilience programs.
On June 19, Panetta reflected on the significance of Juneteenth by stating: “Today, we commemorate #Juneteenth, a day of liberation, reflection, and resolve. As we celebrate the end of slavery in America, we recommit to the ongoing fight for justice and freedom.”
Later that day, he paid tribute to Mike Rotkin with these words: “Mike Rotkin was a lifelong public servant, a principled activist, and a passionate educator. He understood the power of bringing people with different politics to the table to put ideas into action. Mike kept people at the forefront and leaves a legacy in Santa Cruz of leading.”
On June 20, Panetta expressed his concern regarding changes to FEMA’s storm resilience program: “The Administration’s decision to gut FEMA’s storm resilience program is short-sighted and dangerous. In CA-19, just like in Louisiana and the Southeast, we rely on the Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities (BRIC) program to prepare for floods, fires, and extreme.”
Born in Washington D.C., Jimmy Panetta has served California’s 19th District since 2017 after succeeding Sam Farr. At age 53, he resides in Carmel Valley and holds degrees from both UC Davis and Santa Clara University.
