U.S. Representative Jimmy Panetta, who has served California’s 19th district since 2017, posted a series of updates on his official Twitter account between May 13 and May 14, 2026, addressing local recognition, foreign policy concerns, and public health advocacy.
On May 13, Panetta celebrated the national recognition of Santa Cruz County beaches in his district by USA Today. He wrote: “Exciting to hear that two of our Santa Cruz County beaches have been nominated for best beach in the state by USA Today! This nomination recognizes our iconic coastline in the 19th Congressional District, a major part of what makes us the most beautiful Congressional District in” (May 13, 2026).
Later that day, Panetta addressed ongoing U.S. military involvement in Iran. He stated: “The President’s war of choice in Iran has lasted more than two months without any semblance of a plan or endgame. Proud to join my fellow veterans to introduce the No Funds for Iran War Act to prohibit the use of taxpayer dollars for this war barring Congressional authorization.” (May 13, 2026).
On May 14, Panetta highlighted his efforts regarding drug addiction recovery tools. He posted: “Test strips can give those struggling with addiction the chance to survive and recover. That’s why I demanded that Secretary Kennedy reverse the Administration’s decision preventing HHS funding from being used to purchase test strips for drugs like fentanyl and xylazine.” (May 14, 2026).
Panetta was born in Washington, D.C., in 1969 and currently resides in Carmel Valley. He earned a BA from the University of California, Davis in 1991 and a JD from Santa Clara University in 1996. Panetta succeeded Sam Farr as representative for California’s 19th district and has maintained his seat since then.
