U.S. Representative Jimmy Panetta, who has represented California’s 19th district since 2017, posted a series of statements on November 5, 2025, addressing local economic issues and federal policy impacts on his constituents.

In his first post, Panetta highlighted the importance of supporting local businesses: “Our local businesses are vital to our CA-19 culture and economy. This week, I had the opportunity to meet with a local cattle ranch owner and harvester and discuss how Congress can work with and for our ranchers, not against them.” (November 5, 2025).

Later that day, he addressed environmental concerns regarding offshore oil extraction proposals: “Great to get together with local leaders to fight against this administration’s proposal to extract oil off the shores of the United States, including the central coast of California. We’ll always fight to protect the beauty and bounty of our home.” (November 5, 2025).

In another statement posted in the evening, Panetta criticized federal trade policies and tax breaks benefiting wealthy Americans: “Between President Trump’s 40-year fetish for tariffs and the OBBBA’s tax breaks for billionaires, working families in CA-19 and across the country are paying more for the basics. Together we must reclaim our constitutional power over trade in Congress and lower costs for working” (November 5, 2025).

Panetta was born in Washington D.C. in 1969 and currently resides in Carmel Valley. He holds degrees from UC Davis (BA) and Santa Clara University (JD). He succeeded Sam Farr as representative of California’s 19th district in Congress beginning in 2017.
