Rep. Jimmy Panetta, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing California’s 19th district, has recently shared a series of updates on social media concerning his ongoing efforts and initiatives. Panetta, who took office in 2017 after succeeding Sam Farr, continues to address pressing issues affecting his constituents.
On May 7, 2025, Rep. Panetta announced “TONIGHT at 5:00 PM PT: I’m hosting a virtual town hall on this Administration’s sweeping tariffs and how they’re affecting working families, farmers, and small businesses in our region.” The virtual town hall aims to discuss the impact of tariffs on various sectors within his district.
Later that day, he addressed the financial challenges faced by military personnel residing in California’s 19th Congressional District. In a tweet posted at 17:30 UTC, he stated “Affording to live in California’s 19th Congressional District while serving our nation in uniform can be tough. Servicemembers and DoD civilians currently are left out of cost-of-living adjustments despite living in one of the most expensive regions in the country.”
At 17:40 UTC on the same day, Panetta highlighted his involvement with fellow lawmakers to support vital social programs. He tweeted “Medicaid and SNAP are critical lifelines for thousands of working families in California’s 19th Congressional District and millions of Americans across the country.” He mentioned joining colleagues to introduce a discharge petition aimed at ensuring protections for these programs.
Panetta was born in Washington D.C., resides in Carmel Valley, and holds degrees from UC Davis and Santa Clara University.
