Rep. Jimmy Panetta, who represents California’s 19th district in the U.S. Congress, recently addressed a range of issues on his social media accounts, including trade policy, constituent services, and support for farmers.
On October 11, 2025, Panetta criticized recent tariff increases by the Trump administration, stating in a post: “The Trump administration recently raised tariffs on Indian goods to 50% without the approval of Congress. This move hurts American consumers, damages our supply chain, has potential national security implications, and alienates us from the world’s largest democracy. This week, I”.
Later that same day, Panetta highlighted his efforts to assist a local nonprofit with IRS-related issues: “A nonprofit in my district reached out to me for assistance with their missing IRS Employee Retention Credits (ERC). I worked with the IRS and was able to get all six ERC quarters processed and issued. They received $96,078.42. Despite the dysfunction in Washington DC, I continue https://t.co/D32tieXJwb”.
On October 12, 2025—National Farmers Day—Panetta expressed appreciation for agricultural workers: “On National Farmers Day, I want to thank all of the hardworking farmers. Everyday, they take risks to help put food on our table and to be the backbone of our bounty. I will always work to support our farmers in CA-19 and across our country. https://t.co/6Hx61jgPNR”.
Panetta has represented California’s 19th District since replacing Sam Farr in 2017 and is known for his focus on agriculture and constituent advocacy. Born in Washington D.C., he currently resides in Carmel Valley at age 53. He holds degrees from UC Davis (BA) and Santa Clara University (JD).
