Jimmy Panetta, a member of the U.S. Congress representing California’s 19th district since 2017, recently addressed several key issues through his social media platform. Born in Washington, D.C., and currently residing in Carmel Valley, Panetta has a background in law with degrees from the University of California, Davis and Santa Clara University.
On May 15, 2025, Panetta criticized the Majority on the Ways and Means Committee for advancing what he described as a “$3.7 trillion tax giveaway for billionaires at the expense of health care for millions of Americans and our fiscal future.” He affirmed his commitment to “stand up for working families and the values of California’s 19th Congressional” in his tweet.
Later that day, Panetta expressed pride in joining Western Growers to discuss strengthening American agriculture. He emphasized the importance of bipartisan legislation to support growers, expand exports, and improve disaster relief efforts across California’s 19th district and nationwide as stated.
In another post on May 15, Panetta highlighted efforts to protect communities by advocating for legislation that removes bureaucratic obstacles for wildland firefighters. He stated that their bipartisan bill ensures that “wildland firefighters shouldn’t be hamstrung by red tape” according to his tweet.
Panetta has served in Congress since succeeding Sam Farr in 2017. At age 53, he continues to focus on legislative priorities impacting both local constituents and broader national interests.
