Representative Jimmy Panetta, who has been serving in the U.S. Congress representing California’s 19th District since 2017, recently addressed several issues through a series of tweets. Panetta, born in Washington, D.C., and residing in Carmel Valley, voiced concerns over proposed budget cuts and celebrated victories relevant to his constituency.
On June 5, 2025, Panetta expressed concern about the Administration’s proposed cuts to USAID. He stated that such reductions “would devastate global health, weaken our alliances, and abandon vulnerable communities around the world.” He emphasized that American leadership is fundamentally rooted in compassion and stability and highlighted its role in making significant progress in HIV prevention.
The following day, on June 6, 2025, Panetta announced a positive development for California farmers and ranchers. He noted a “Victory for California farmers and ranchers!” as the Administration reversed its decision to close eight USDA offices across the state after pushback from congressional representatives. This reversal included key outposts serving producers within California’s 19th Congressional District.
Later on June 6, Panetta took to the House Floor to commemorate Santa Cruz Pride’s 50th anniversary. He acknowledged it as one of the oldest Pride events nationwide and the first held in a small American city. In his tweet “Pride is about more than parades,” he emphasized themes of persistence, protection, and progress while affirming continued support for LGBTQ+ rights.
