U.S. Congressman Jimmy Panetta, who represents California’s 19th district, posted a series of messages on October 10, 2025, addressing issues ranging from press freedom and international peace efforts to fire prevention safety.
In his first post of the day, Panetta expressed support for the reinstatement of Voice of America employees. He stated, “I applaud this decision to reinstate the employees from Voice of America who were unjustly terminated by this Administration. The free press is a foundation of American Democracy, and I will continue to support access to independent journalism in CA-19 and across the globe.” (October 10, 2025)
Later that afternoon, Panetta commented on developments related to a peace plan involving hostages and conflict cessation. He wrote, “We must remember that the release of the hostages and cessation of hostilities are the first part of the 20-point peace plan. Although an exceptional step forward, we must work on implementing humanitarian aid into Gaza, disarming and dismantling Hamas, and creating the structure” (October 10, 2025).
In recognition of Fire Prevention Week, Panetta addressed fire safety concerns in his district. He highlighted risks associated with lithium-ion batteries: “During Fire Prevention Week, it is important that we all do our part to prevent fires. Lithium-ion batteries are often the cause of preventable fires, and we can prevent a senseless tragedy by making sure that we charge and recycle our batteries properly to keep all of CA-19” (October 10, 2025).
Panetta has represented California’s 19th district since succeeding Sam Farr in Congress in 2017. Born in Washington D.C. in 1969 and currently residing in Carmel Valley at age 53, he holds degrees from UC Davis (BA) and Santa Clara University (JD).
