Rep. Jimmy Panetta, serving as a U.S. Congress member for California’s 19th district since 2017, has taken to social media to address issues impacting his constituency and beyond. His recent tweets encompass topics of environmental concern and economic policy.

On April 9, 2025, Panetta highlighted the upcoming fire season in California and the western United States, stating, “As we recover from January’s wildfires, forecasts show California and the West could face a dangerous fire season ahead that’s hotter, drier, and fueled by fast-growing vegetation. We must stay vigilant, support our firefighters, and continue investing in climate resilience”. This statement reflects his focus on preparedness and investment in measures to counter climate change effects.

Later the same day, Panetta turned his attention to trade policy, specifically targeting the economic impacts of tariffs imposed by the Trump administration. On April 9, 2025, he expressed, “President Trump’s tariffs are raising costs, disrupting supply chains, and threatening jobs. I sat down with local business owners to hear their concerns about the tariffs and be their voice in Congress to fight back and reclaim our authority over trade policy.” He emphasized the burden these tariffs place on the economy and his commitment to addressing these concerns legislatively.

In a follow-up tweet on the same day, Panetta elaborated on this issue, noting engagement with a diverse range of local businesses. He shared, “From car dealers to grocery stores, local business owners joined me to highlight the ways tariffs and market volatility are hurting their bottom line and working families. Washington needs to listen.” He mentioned possessing legislation aimed at reasserting congressional authority in trade matters, indicative of his proactive approach to economic challenges facing his constituency.

Jimmy Panetta, 53, represents California’s 19th Congressional District, having been elected to replace former Congressman Sam Farr in 2017. He was born in Washington, D.C., and resides in Carmel Valley. Panetta earned a Bachelor of Arts from the University of California, Davis, and a Juris Doctorate from Santa Clara University.
