Rep. Jimmy Panetta, currently serving in the U.S. Congress and representing California’s 19th district since 2017, shared several updates via social media on June 13, 2025. Born in Washington, D.C., Panetta has a background in law and resides in Carmel Valley.
On June 13, Panetta commemorated the efforts of farmworker advocates from fifty years ago who succeeded in banning “el cortito,” a tool known for causing long-term injuries to workers. He stated, “Fifty years ago, farmworker advocates stood up and banned el cortito, a hazardous tool that caused long-term injuries. We honor that legacy and recommit to protecting the dignity of every worker.”
Later that day, he spoke about his interaction with Claire Hamilton, the winner of CA-19’s Congressional Art Competition from San Lorenzo Valley High School. Her artwork titled “Hearts at Rest” is now displayed at the U.S. Capitol. He expressed his congratulations by stating, “Spoke with this year’s winner of CA-19’s Congressional Art Competition, Claire Hamilton from San Lorenzo Valley High School, during her trip to Washington, D.C. Claire’s piece ‘Hearts at Rest,’ is now hanging proudly in the U.S. Capitol for the country to see.”
In another post made on June 13 as well, Panetta addressed a report from the Congressional Budget Office regarding Speaker Johnson’s tax bill. He criticized it by saying it would benefit billionaires while cutting essential programs for working families: “The CBO confirms that Speaker Johnson’s massive tax bill will cut taxes for billionaires, paid for by cutting Medicaid, food assistance, and support for working families.”
