Representative Jimmy Panetta, who serves California’s 19th district in the U.S. Congress, recently addressed several policy issues on his social media account, including immigration reform, environmental protection, and the ongoing government shutdown.
On November 4, 2025, Panetta highlighted the significance of the H-1B visa program in supporting technological advancement in the United States. He stated, “The H-1B visa program is an important part of why the United States continues to lead in technological innovation and is needed now more than ever with the recent sharp rise of artificial intelligence. The Administration should not only preserve, but also expand the H-1B program”.
Later that day, Panetta expressed concern about proposed federal leasing plans for offshore oil extraction. In a post dated November 4, 2025, he wrote: “The Administration’s leasing plan to pierce protections off our coasts would hurt our environment and our economy. We’ve stopped previous attempts to extract oil from our coastline, and, together, will continue our fight to protect our beauty and bounty.”
On November 5, 2025, Panetta called for bipartisan cooperation to end a government shutdown. He said: “It’s past time for Speaker Johnson, Leader Thune, and President Trump to come to the negotiating table to find a bipartisan path forward to reopen the government. They are in charge of the House, Senate and White House and need to show the will to govern and protect healthcare,”
Panetta has represented California’s 19th District since 2017 after succeeding Sam Farr. Born in Washington D.C. in 1969 and currently residing in Carmel Valley at age 53, he holds degrees from UC Davis (BA) and Santa Clara University (JD).
