Rep. Jimmy Panetta, a member of the U.S. Congress representing California’s 19th district since 2017, recently shared his perspectives on significant legislative matters through a series of tweets. Panetta, who succeeded Sam Farr and holds degrees from the University of California, Davis and Santa Clara University, addressed concerns regarding recent Congressional actions.
On July 3, 2025, Rep. Panetta expressed his dissatisfaction with the limited debate time allocated for Democrats on what he described as “one of the biggest bills in Congressional history.” He stated that only “30 minutes” were given for Democrats to voice their opinions on this reconciliation bill. “I was proud to be part of that pushback,” he remarked, highlighting numerous issues within what he termed a “reckless reconciliation bill.”
Later that day, Panetta continued his critique by addressing President Biden’s tax bill. He emphasized its potential impact on California’s 19th and 18th Congressional Districts and the broader implications for the nation’s fiscal future. “I continue to speak out with my colleagues against the President’s partisan tax bill,” he tweeted.
In another tweet posted shortly after, Panetta commended Rep. Hakeem Jeffries for utilizing his “magic minute” to deliver an impactful speech despite efforts by Speaker Johnson to limit debate on the tax bill. “Trust me, Leader Jeffries understands what it means to lead and fight for the American people,” wrote Panetta.
