Rep. Jimmy Panetta, currently serving California’s 19th district in the U.S. Congress since 2017, has been actively voicing his concerns and actions through social media. Born in Washington, D.C., in 1969, Panetta resides in Carmel Valley and holds degrees from the University of California, Davis, and Santa Clara University.
On July 2, 2025, Rep. Panetta addressed an impending House vote on a bill proposing to raise the debt ceiling by $5.1 trillion. He criticized the bill for its intention to add more debt “through tax cuts for billionaires and cuts to essential programs like Medicaid and food assistance.” He also mentioned his plan to reintroduce legislation “to counter these measures.”
Later that day, he shared a personal anecdote about assisting a constituent with a longstanding issue with the Social Security Administration regarding overpayment. The constituent had struggled for years without resolution until contacting Panetta’s office. Through his intervention, the matter was finally resolved “highlighting his commitment to addressing bureaucratic inefficiencies.”
In another post on July 2, Rep. Panetta described a meeting with emergency physicians where they discussed congressional support for emergency care and safeguarding the safety net. He emphasized his dedication to ensuring federal government involvement in supporting medical professionals through Medicare payment reform and Medicaid protections “demonstrating his ongoing efforts in healthcare advocacy.”
