Representative Jimmy Panetta, who has served in the U.S. Congress representing California’s 19th District since 2017, recently addressed several issues of local and national importance through a series of posts on social media. The congressman, who succeeded Sam Farr in 2017 and currently resides in Carmel Valley, commented on community partnerships, federal funding for public broadcasting, and support for veterans.
On July 15, 2025, Panetta highlighted his continued engagement with local officials by referencing a meeting with Monterey Mayor Tyller Williamson. He stated, “Always great to catch up with Monterey Mayor Tyller Williamson to talk about how we can keep partnering on housing, infrastructure, economic development, and the future of our community. Proud to support local leaders working to strengthen our home and deliver results.”
Later that day, Panetta addressed proposed federal budget cuts affecting public broadcasting. On July 15, 2025, he wrote: “Public radio and TV keep communities informed, kids learning, and local stories alive. This Administration’s plan to cut $500 million in public media funding puts that mission at risk. I’ll continue to fight to protect public broadcasting so families stay connected and”.
In another post on July 15, 2025, Panetta criticized the current administration’s approach to veterans’ care funding. He stated: “This Administration’s cuts to the VA are impacting veteran care, and new reporting shows they’re providing misleading numbers to justify these misplaced priorities. Veterans deserve truth, transparency, and the care they earned.”
Panetta was born in Washington D.C. in 1969 and is an alumnus of UC Davis (BA) and Santa Clara University (JD). He continues his legislative work from Carmel Valley.
