Rep. Jimmy Panetta, a member of the U.S. Congress representing California’s 19th district, has addressed local concerns about the government shutdown and its impact on social assistance programs in a series of posts on October 31, 2025.
In his first post, Panetta described meeting with a local official to discuss community challenges related to the ongoing federal shutdown: “Always good to meet one on one with local county supervisors and hear about how we must continue to work together for our constituents. Thanks to Santa Cruz County Supervisor Monica Martinez for the discussion about the impacts of the shutdown on our community and its https://t.co/dhg1TsiGIJ” (October 31, 2025).
Later that day, Panetta turned his attention to food insecurity caused by interruptions in Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits: “Our food banks are preparing for the worst as thousands of people across CA-19 will miss their November SNAP benefits. That’s why I have and will continue to push this Administration to use the USDA contingency funds to allow working families to get the proper food assistance.” (October 31, 2025).
Addressing Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) recipients in California later that evening, Panetta assured constituents that WIC benefits would remain accessible throughout November: “WIC recipients across California can still access their benefits throughout November.
Appointments are still happening.
Benefits are still on your card.
Keep shopping with WIC.
Don’t miss out on your benefits.
