Jimmy Panetta, serving as the representative for California’s 19th district since 2017, has been vocal on various issues through his social media updates. He succeeded Sam Farr and has a background in law, with education credentials from the University of California, Davis, and Santa Clara University.
In a post on April 24, 2025, Panetta expressed his concerns over the proposed cuts to the USDA budget. He noted that these reductions would adversely affect over 600 California farmers who stand to lose a crucial market for their crops. He remarked, “Slashing food aid takes meals off tables and disrupts our ag economy. I’m proud to lead the effort in Congress to restore this funding.”
Later that same day, Panetta recounted a discussion from one of his town halls, which addressed concerns about the current administration’s approach to Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid. He highlighted the risks posed by “DOGE,” which he claims aims to dismantle these earned services. His post read, “At one of my many town halls, we discussed on the fight to protect Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid from this administration and DOGE that is looking to dismantle those earned services.”
In a subsequent post, Panetta announced a new development in South San Jose, undertaken in collaboration with Mayor Matt Mahan. They are welcoming Nokia’s new manufacturing hub, promising the creation of hundreds of jobs and the enhancement of AI and data infrastructure. Panetta described the situation as an example of the potential for advanced, domestic manufacturing enabled by federal support. He stated, “This is exactly the kind of advanced, domestic manufacturing that’s possible with federal.”
Panetta, a native of Washington, D.C. living in Carmel Valley, continues his engagement in legislative affairs with an emphasis on agricultural, social security, and technological development issues.
