Rep. Jimmy Panetta, who represents California’s 19th district in the U.S. Congress, recently shared several updates on his social media account regarding local recognition and national economic policy.
On November 12, 2025, Panetta posted about a significant local designation: “Great to see the San Lorenzo River mouth named as a California Historical Landmark. Here in the 19th Congressional District, we are known for our immense beauty and as the birthplace of surfing in the U.S. This is a much deserved recognition for the city of Santa Cruz and for”. The post highlights both regional pride and historical significance for Santa Cruz.
Earlier that day, Panetta commented on federal economic policy, specifically addressing tariffs imposed by former President Donald Trump: “Trump’s tariffs are causing high prices and hurting working families. Even though he promised to reduce costs, the President’s instincts are telling him that his tariffs aren’t popular, so he comes up with gimmicks to deflect. Unfortunately, this type of payout won’t work and” (November 12, 2025).

Panetta has served in Congress since 2017 after succeeding Sam Farr. He was born in Washington, D.C., in 1969 and currently resides in Carmel Valley. He holds degrees from UC Davis (BA) and Santa Clara University (JD).
