Rep. Jimmy Panetta, who represents California’s 19th district in the U.S. Congress, addressed several issues affecting his constituency through a series of posts on October 30, 2025.
On the ongoing wildfire threat in his district, Panetta stated, “Wildfires continue to threaten CA-19. Always good to meet with local fire fighters to hear about their plans to build a new station and expand their service area.” (October 30, 2025).
Later that day, Panetta called for action from House leadership regarding the federal government shutdown: “Speaker Johnson must call us back to DC and put the House in session. It’s past time for leadership to get to the table and negotiate a bipartisan end to this shutdown to get the federal government back to work and ensure working families get proper healthcare and food” (October 30, 2025).
He also voiced opposition to potential offshore oil extraction plans near Santa Cruz: “Proud to stand alongside local leaders and environmental advocates in Santa Cruz against the Administration’s potential plan to extract oil off the coasts of the United States. We will not back down in the fight to protect our coastal economy and way of life.” (October 30, 2025).
Panetta has represented California’s 19th district since replacing Sam Farr in Congress in 2017. He was born in Washington, D.C., in 1969 and currently resides in Carmel Valley. His educational background includes a BA from the University of California, Davis (1991), and a JD from Santa Clara University (1996).
