In the week ending May 2, one gas station in Monterey County sold E85 gas at the lowest reported price of $2.99 per gallon, according to customer reports submitted to GasBuddy.

The county registered an average of $3.37 per gallon for E85 gas.

Of the 145 reported gas stations located within Monterey County, five offered E85 gas.

Across California, the average reported price for a gallon of E85 gas rose to $3.07, compared to the week before.

According to an analysis by Time Magazine, fuel prices remain elevated and volatile as global oil markets react to geopolitical developments tied to the U.S. conflict with Iran, with supply concerns focused on potential disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz. As of mid-April, the national average for gasoline remains above the $4-per-gallon mark, while diesel exceeds $5.60, reflecting recent swings driven by a temporary ceasefire and subsequent renewed escalation. Analysts say prices are likely to rise further in the near term as uncertainty persists and supply risks remain, with additional increases expected unless shipping flows through key transit routes are restored.

Gas price data reflects cash payments. Some stations may charge higher prices for credit card transactions due to processing fees, though such surcharges are prohibited in some states and territories.
