The Monterey County Sheriff’s Office announced on May 13 that it will host the 2026 Memorial Wall Ceremony to honor the thirteen members of its agency who have died in the line of duty over more than 175 years. The ceremony is scheduled for Wednesday, May 13, at 1:00 PM at the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office Memorial Wall located at 1414 Natividad Road in Salinas.
The event aims to remember and pay tribute to deputies and personnel who lost their lives while serving Monterey County. The ceremony will include the placement of flowers and a reading of the names of fallen personnel whose service and sacrifice are recognized by both current staff and the community.
According to organizers, “The Monterey County Sheriff’s Memorial stands as a lasting tribute to the brave deputies and personnel who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to the people of Monterey County.” The memorial wall was first dedicated in October 2014 with eight names, with additional names added over time as a reminder of risks faced by law enforcement professionals.
Members of the community, allied agencies, retired staff, and families of those honored are invited to attend what is described as a solemn ceremony for remembrance and reflection. Organizers said this annual event serves not only as an act of commemoration but also underscores ongoing appreciation for those who serve today.
The Sheriff’s Office encourages broad participation from all sectors connected with law enforcement or affected by its work. Contact information for further details about attending or participating is available through Commander Andres Rosas.
