Pacific Coast Post Acute was the top nursing home in Monterey County for the first quarter of 2026, according to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).
Records indicate the facility provided 149 beds—78 more than the county’s average for the quarter—and served an average of 143.9 residents each day during that time.
The CMS awarded Pacific Coast Post Acute an overall rating of 4 out of 5, higher than the 3.2 average for nursing homes across California.
Windsor the Ridge Rehabilitation Center ranked as the county’s second largest nursing home for the quarter, offering 103 beds. Salinas Valley Post Acute|Cypress Ridge Care Center|Carmel Hills Care Center placed third with 99 beds available.
By the end of the first quarter of 2026, Pacific Coast Post Acute had paid $6,721 for one fine and recorded a single penalty.
Monterey County, California, had a total of 10 for-profit nursing homes.
U.S. Census Bureau estimates show that the nation’s older adult population is growing while younger age groups are decreasing. From 2020 to 2024, Americans age 65 and older rose by 13%, while those under 18 dropped by 1.7%. The older adult population has risen sharply over the last century, from 4.9 million in 1920 to over 61 million in 2024.
A 2021 analysis estimates that almost half of Americans in this age group—nearly 28 million—could require long-term care and services. More than a third may ultimately need nursing home care.
“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
