Rep. Jimmy Panetta, a member of the U.S. Congress representing California’s 19th district since 2017, recently addressed several pressing issues through his social media platform. Born in Washington, D.C., in 1969 and currently residing in Carmel Valley, Panetta has been an active voice on matters affecting his constituents and beyond.
On May 6, 2025, Rep. Panetta shared an update regarding Cliona Ward, an Irish immigrant who has faced challenges due to her past but has since turned her life around. “Cliona is an Irish immigrant who overcame addiction, had her convictions expunged, and has rebuilt her life, contributing to her community and caring for her family.” He expressed concern over the current administration’s attempts to deport Ward based on charges.
Later that day, Rep. Panetta voiced his opposition to the administration’s actions concerning international students. “Proud to join my colleagues demanding answers about the Administration’s mass revocation of student visas.” He criticized what he perceives as executive overreach that undermines American educational ideals by targeting international students with flawed methods.
In another post from May 6, 2025, Rep. Panetta highlighted economic challenges faced by servicemembers and Department of Defense civilians in his region. “Servicemembers and DoD civilians in our region face some of the highest living costs in the nation.” To address this issue, he introduced legislation aimed at ensuring these individuals receive appropriate compensation through cost-of-living adjustments.
Rep. Jimmy Panetta holds a BA from the University of California, Davis (1991), and a JD from Santa Clara University (1996). His legislative efforts reflect ongoing commitments to addressing immigration concerns and supporting military families within his district.
