Jimmy Panetta, a member of the U.S. Congress representing California’s 19th district since 2017, recently shared several updates on his Twitter account regarding issues affecting veterans and ongoing legislative matters. Born in Washington, D.C., in 1969 and residing in Carmel Valley, Panetta has been active in addressing key concerns during his tenure.
On June 18, 2025, Panetta reported intervening with the Defense Finance and Accounting Service (DFAS) to assist a veteran who had not received military retirement pay for months. As a result of his efforts, “he got $13,587.36 in missing pay issued to his account.” Panetta emphasized that “our veterans deserve better,” expressing his commitment to overcoming dysfunction in Washington to advocate for their rights.
Later that day, Panetta addressed developments concerning the Senate Majority’s version of a tax bill. He noted that it included “even steeper cuts to Medicaid and safety-net programs” aimed at funding tax cuts for billionaires. In response to these proposed changes on June 18, he declared “I’ll keep fighting to protect the health care for millions.”
In another post on June 18, Panetta highlighted his leadership role among over 50 Democrats and Republicans urging Congress to address military food insecurity. He stressed the importance of supporting service members by ensuring their basic needs are met: “We must take care of those who serve.”
