Representative Jimmy Panetta of California’s 19th district has taken to social media to express concerns on various issues, ranging from national security to local community developments. Known for succeeding Sam Farr in 2017 and a resident of Carmel Valley, Panetta continues his congressional duties with a focus on community engagement and investments in technology.
On April 21, 2025, Rep. Panetta raised significant concerns regarding the Office of the Secretary of Defense. He mentioned “The Office of the Secretary of Defense has an operational security issue that stems from the top. We continue to demand a full investigation into Secretary Hegseth’s classified information sharing.” He further suggested that “Be it incompetence, arrogance, or immaturity, the atmosphere in his office is” problematic.
Later the same day, Panetta focused on his commitment to community interaction. He tweeted about holding office hours in South San Jose, saying “Held office hours in South San Jose to meet directly with constituents, because democracy works best when leaders listen.” He expressed gratitude towards those who shared their personal stories and ideas.
That evening, Panetta also commented on technological investment, particularly in a new facility. He remarked “The upcoming Nokia chips plant is a reminder of what’s possible when the federal government invests the right way: in cutting-edge manufacturing, in workers, and in our communities.” He voiced pride in supporting the project in South San Jose, drawing attention to its benefits for the area and California’s 19th district.
Congressman Panetta, a 53-year-old UC Davis and Santa Clara University alumnus, continues to contribute to discussions on security, governance, and technological advancements, reflecting his interests and legislative focus.
