Rep. Jimmy Panetta, who has been serving in the U.S. Congress representing California’s 19th district since 2017, recently addressed several key issues through a series of tweets. Panetta, born in Washington, D.C., and currently residing in Carmel Valley, is known for his active engagement in legislative matters concerning both local and national interests.
On May 6, 2025, Rep. Panetta expressed his commitment to ensuring that Everett Alvarez receives the Congressional Gold Medal despite financial constraints imposed by the current administration. He stated, “Everett Alvarez is an American hero who received unanimous support last Congress to award him the Congressional Gold Medal. I’m pushing the U.S. Mint to stay on track despite the Administration’s cuts and will keep pressing until it’s done.”
Later that day, Panetta announced his introduction of a new piece of legislation aimed at environmental conservation. He tweeted about the Central Coast of California Conservation Act on May 6, 2025: “I introduced the Central Coast of California Conservation Act which would permanently block new offshore oil and gas drilling along the Central Coast, including Monterey Bay. We will always work to protect our ocean, our communities, and our future.”
In another tweet dated May 7, 2025, Panetta criticized the current administration’s tariff policy for its economic repercussions. He invited constituents to join a virtual town hall meeting to discuss these impacts further: “This Administration’s tariff policy is already raising prices and hurting local industries. Join me tomorrow at 5:00 PM PT for a virtual town hall on their economic impact, featuring expert voices and your questions.”
Panetta graduated from the University of California, Davis with a BA in 1991 and earned his JD from Santa Clara University in 1996.
