Rep. Jimmy Panetta, who represents California’s 19th district in the U.S. Congress, recently addressed several issues on his social media account, including federal worker layoffs during a government shutdown and new funding for water infrastructure in Monterey County.
On October 5, 2025, Panetta criticized the current administration’s response to the ongoing government shutdown. He stated, “This Administration’s use of this shutdown to lay off thousands of federal workers is unacceptable. These retaliatory measures hurt all Americans. I will continue to support our federal workers in CA-19 and across the country and negotiations to end this shutdown.”
Later that day, Panetta highlighted recent achievements for his district regarding water resources. He wrote, “I am proud to have helped secure over $60M in federal funding to expand the groundwater supply in the Monterey Peninsula. This expansion increases Monterey County’s water supply by 60% and will allow this vital water source to continue to fuel CA-19’s beauty and bounty.”
On October 6, Panetta posted a notice about constituent services: “Please note, we anticipate a high number of submissions, so we may not be able to fulfill all requests. Submitting a meeting request through the online form does not guarantee that you will have an appointment.”
Panetta has served as the representative for California’s 19th District since 2017 after succeeding Sam Farr. Born in Washington D.C. in 1969 and currently residing in Carmel Valley, he holds degrees from UC Davis (BA) and Santa Clara University (JD).
