On March 31, 2025, Panetta expressed his dissatisfaction over the federal funding freeze on NIH grants, describing it as a detrimental move against scientific advancement. “The federal funding freeze on NIH grants is a direct attack on scientific progress, education, and jobs in our community. On April 1, 2025, Panetta introduced the Reclaim Trade Powers Act, aiming to overhaul the presidential tariff authorities and reinforce Congressional oversight in trade matters. Later on the same day, Panetta discussed the bipartisan Disaster-Related Extension of Deadlines Act, which seeks to synchronize tax deadlines in disaster-affected areas. He emphasized the importance of this measure by stating, “I spoke on the Disaster-Related Extension of Deadlines Act, a bipartisan bill that ensures tax deadlines remain aligned in disaster zones. This commonsense fix will allow taxpayers to claim what they’re owed and prevent confusion during an already difficult recovery process”.
