Rep. Jimmy Panetta, who has represented California’s 19th district in the U.S. Congress since 2017, recently addressed several federal policy issues and ongoing political debates through a series of posts on his social media account.
On November 5, 2025, Panetta promoted his legislative proposal aimed at preventing government shutdowns. He stated, “My Prevent Government Shutdowns Act would bring Democrats and Republicans together to guarantee essential federal services for working families. In the meantime, Speaker Johnson, Leader Thune, and President Trump must come to the negotiating table to protect healthcare, restore”.
The following day, November 6, Panetta commented on food insecurity and economic pressures affecting local communities during a visit to a regional nonprofit organization. He wrote, “Always good to visit Second Harvest Food Bank of Silicon Valley. With the uncertainty coming out of the White House on SNAP benefits, our federal employees not getting paid, and the high costs from tariffs that we are all experiencing, more and more people are relying on our food”.
Later that same day, Panetta discussed legal challenges regarding tariff policies enacted by the Trump Administration. He said, “Today, the Supreme Court had tough questions for the Trump Administration over its tariff policy. Under the U.S. Constitution, it is the responsibility of Congress to create tariffs, not the executive branch. However, President Trump imposed sweeping across the board tariffs on”.
Panetta was born in Washington D.C., in 1969 and currently resides in Carmel Valley. He holds degrees from both UC Davis (BA) and Santa Clara University (JD). As a member of Congress since 2017—having succeeded Sam Farr—he has frequently commented on bipartisan efforts and key national concerns such as government funding stability and trade policy.
