Rep. Jimmy Panetta, a U.S. Congressman representing California’s 19th district since 2017, recently addressed several national issues through his official social media account.
On October 8, 2025, Panetta posted about the legal constraints on deploying the National Guard in domestic situations: “Without a rebellion, an unmanageable emergency for local authorities, or an invocation of the Insurrection Act, the deployment of the National Guard to police our communities is against the law, as well as the foundational principles of our nation’s founding fathers.”
Later that day, he commented on ongoing government negotiations: “I welcome the Administration’s willingness to negotiate to bring an end to this shutdown. I have and will continue to push for negotiations to lower healthcare costs for hardworking families in CA-19 and across the country. I encourage the Administration to do the same.” This statement reflects Panetta’s continued advocacy for his constituents in California’s 19th district.
In another post from October 8, Panetta referenced a recent court decision regarding federal funding: “Last week, a federal judge temporarily blocked President Trump from cutting $233 million in counterterrorism grant funds for blue states. If Speaker Johnson won’t stand up to this Administration, at least the courts are the bulwark.”
Panetta was born in Washington D.C. in 1969 and currently resides in Carmel Valley. He earned a BA from University of California, Davis and a JD from Santa Clara University. He succeeded Sam Farr as representative of California’s 19th congressional district.
