Rep. Jimmy Panetta, who represents California’s 19th district in the U.S. Congress, recently addressed several issues on his social media account, including concerns about federal orders involving State National Guards, food insecurity in Santa Cruz County, and healthcare access for small business owners during a government shutdown.
On October 17, 2025, Panetta wrote: “This week, I led a letter with my colleagues requesting that the Administration immediately rescind orders to federalize State National Guards, restore the authority to their respective governors, and refrain from invoking the Insurrection Act in circumstances that do not meet”.
Later that day, he posted about cuts to Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits: “The cuts to SNAP have consequences for CA-19. In Santa Cruz County alone, more than 1 out of every 4 residents are experiencing food insecurity. I will continue to fight in Congress to restore proper funding to vital programs like SNAP.”
In another post on October 17, Panetta highlighted challenges facing small businesses amid a government shutdown: “Small business owners across CA-19 are some of the most at risk of being unable to afford their healthcare. This is why we must come to the negotiating table to end this shutdown and protect healthcare for our small businesses in CA-19 and across the country.”
Panetta has represented California’s 19th District since 2017 after succeeding Sam Farr. He was born in Washington D.C. in 1969 and currently resides in Carmel Valley. Panetta holds a BA from the University of California, Davis (1991), and earned his JD from Santa Clara University in 1996.
