Rep. Jimmy Panetta, who represents California’s 19th district in the U.S. Congress, addressed several issues affecting his constituents and national policy through a series of tweets on July 22, 2025.
In a post at 17:01 UTC, Panetta emphasized the importance of local media outlets and federal support for public broadcasting. He stated, “Local media like KAZU is essential to keeping our communities informed, connected, and safe, especially in emergencies. The Administration’s push to defund public broadcasting threatens that mission. I’m committed to protecting federal support for public media and fighting for”.
Later that day at 19:00 UTC, Panetta criticized the practice of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents wearing masks during enforcement actions in residential areas. He wrote, “ICE agents are continuing to wear masks during enforcement actions, even in broad daylight and residential neighborhoods. That’s wrong. Americans have a right to know who is conducting enforcement in their communities. That’s why I’m proud to support legislation to ban the use of”.
At 21:00 UTC on the same day, Panetta highlighted his efforts assisting a constituent with an IRS issue after filing a final tax return for her mother. He shared, “After filing a final tax return on behalf of her mother, a constituent couldn’t get answers from the IRS. I helped her provide the correct documentation, and the IRS released the refund: $3,945.32. I’ll keep fighting for CA-19 families so that the federal government works for https://t.co/XsBaLyd5W5”.
Panetta has served as California’s representative since 2017 after succeeding Sam Farr in Congress. Born in Washington D.C., he currently resides in Carmel Valley and holds degrees from both UC Davis (BA) and Santa Clara University (JD).
