Rep. Jimmy Panetta, a member of the U.S. Congress representing California’s 19th district since 2017, recently used his social media platform to address key issues ranging from federal tariff policy to constituent services and local agriculture.

On November 8, 2025, Panetta commented on ongoing legal challenges related to tariffs enacted by former President Donald Trump, stating: “President Trump’s 40 year fetish for tariffs is being put to the test before our courts. It is far past time for Congress to reclaim its constitutional powers over tariffs and trade. We will continue our work to stop this Administration’s tariff policy to lower costs for working”.

Later that day, Panetta highlighted a case in which he assisted a constituent with an IRS issue involving passport withholding: “A constituent recently reached out to me for assistance because the IRS was withholding his passport. The constituent believed that an error had been made, so I reached out to the IRS and successfully had it reversed, granting him his passport. In another post on November 8, Panetta discussed his engagement with local farmers regarding their concerns: “Always good to meet with local farmers to hear about the challenges that they face from food safety to tariffs to labor issues and more. Even better when we work together to find solutions to help them continue their work as the best producers in the world to ensure our food https://t.co/xGJyA7llSt”.

Panetta has served in Congress since replacing Sam Farr in 2017 and represents California’s agricultural Central Coast region. Born in Washington D.C. in 1969 and currently residing in Carmel Valley, Panetta holds degrees from UC Davis (BA) and Santa Clara University (JD). His legislative focus often includes agriculture and economic policy—issues reflected both in his public statements and direct outreach efforts with constituents.
