Rep. Jimmy Panetta, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing California’s 19th district, has expressed his views on several pressing issues through a series of tweets. His comments touch upon economic policies, gun violence, and healthcare legislation.
On July 9, 2025, Panetta criticized the administration’s approach to tariffs. He stated that “The chaotic tariff threats from the Administration are creating uncertainty, confusion, and costs for small businesses across the country.” He advocated for stable and strategic policies that would strengthen American industry rather than create discord with trade partners.
In another tweet dated July 10, 2025, Panetta addressed the impact of mass shootings on communities. Reflecting on a tragic event in Boulder where ten people were killed in a grocery store shooting, he noted that “When a mass shooting happens, the pain and grief reverberate through loved ones and communities.” Among those affected was Erika Mahoney, whose father was one of the victims.
Later on July 10, Panetta commented on proposed changes to tax law that could affect healthcare coverage for working families. He warned that “The reconciliation tax law could kick working families from their health care in an attempt to pay for tax breaks for billionaires.” Highlighting local concerns, he mentioned nearly 12,000 residents in California’s 19th district could lose coverage and emphasized collaboration with local providers to address these challenges.
Panetta has been serving as a U.S. Congressman since replacing Sam Farr in 2017. Born in Washington D.C., he now resides in Carmel Valley and holds degrees from both the University of California, Davis and Santa Clara University.
