Rep. Jimmy Panetta, who represents California’s 19th district in the U.S. Congress, addressed several local and national issues in a series of posts on July 19, 2025. The topics ranged from trade policy impacts on small businesses to concerns over healthcare legislation and efforts to expand telecommunications infrastructure.
On July 19, 2025, Panetta highlighted the challenges faced by local business owners due to federal trade policies: “Met with local business owners who’ve built a 40-year operation on the Monterey Peninsula and now face serious challenges from President Trump’s tariffs. I’ll keep pushing for trade policies that support small businesses, protect jobs, and reflect the realities of our local”.
Later that day, he raised concerns about the effects of recent tax legislation: “The reconciliation tax law will result in Americans losing health coverage and could force closures of rural hospitals in our communities. I’ve continued to inform our 19th Congressional District about the consequences of this law and I’ll keep working to protect access to”.
In his final post of the day, Panetta discussed efforts to improve regional infrastructure: “Met with stakeholders exploring opportunities to expand telecom infrastructure in the Monterey Bay Area. Projects like this have the potential to drive economic development, create good local jobs, and strengthen partnerships with our regional institutions.”
Panetta has represented California’s 19th district since 2017 after succeeding Sam Farr. He was born in Washington, D.C., in 1969 and currently resides in Carmel Valley. Panetta holds a BA from UC Davis (1991) and a JD from Santa Clara University (1996).
