Rep. Jimmy Panetta addresses tariffs, mushroom poisonings, and healthcare costs on social media

Rep. Jimmy Panetta, who represents California’s 19th district in the U.S. Congress, has recently addressed several issues affecting his constituents through a series of posts on his official Twitter account.

On December 10, 2025, Panetta criticized current federal trade policies, stating, “This Administration’s tariff policy has hurt farmers in CA-19 and across the country. Now, many of them will be excluded from this Administration’s new relief package. That’s why I joined a bipartisan group to introduce the Specialty Crop & Wine Producer Tariff Relief Act to”.

The following day, December 11, 2025, he warned residents about public health risks in Monterey County: “This winter, Monterey County is seeing a concerning increase in poisonings from wild mushrooms. If you don’t have the proper training and experience, please keep yourself safe and avoid any unexperienced attempts to forage for mushrooms.”

Later that same day, Panetta addressed healthcare affordability: “The cost of healthcare has skyrocketed in CA-19 and across the country. I joined my colleagues in supporting a bipartisan framework which aims to lower healthcare costs and protect access to affordable coverage for working families. I urge the House and Senate leadership to bring”.

Panetta has served as the congressional representative for California’s 19th District since 2017 after succeeding Sam Farr ([source](https://panetta.house.gov/about)). He was born in Washington D.C., is currently 53 years old, resides in Carmel Valley, and holds degrees from UC Davis (BA) and Santa Clara University (JD).
