Representative Jimmy Panetta, a U.S. Congress member serving California’s 19th District, shared multiple updates on Twitter concerning his current activities and perspectives. Panetta, born in Washington, D.C. in 1969 and a resident of Carmel Valley, has been a member of Congress since 2017. His education includes a BA from the University of California, Davis, and a JD from Santa Clara University.
On April 23, 2025, Panetta expressed his disapproval of the President’s tariff plans, stating “Tariffs don’t just hit products, they hit people. I oppose the President’s tariff plans because they’re driving up prices, shaking consumer confidence, and hurting our small businesses when they can least afford it.” Panetta emphasized his commitment to pursuing the restoration of Congressional authority on this matter.
On the same day, he highlighted his engagement with District 10 youth leaders in South San Jose. Panetta remarked “Great to meet with District 10 youth leaders in South San Jose to talk service, leadership, and the issues that matter most to young people today.” He noted their enthusiasm and dedication as a positive influence and source of inspiration for his duties.
Later, Panetta celebrated the recognition of Paso Robles MainStreet, stating it had been ranked the eighth-best nationally. He commented “Paso Robles MainStreet is ranked 8th best in the nation, and it’s the only California downtown to make the list!” This acknowledgment highlights the cultural and historical significance of the community within California’s 19th Congressional District.
Representing California’s 19th district since 2017, Panetta has consistently engaged with his constituency focusing on local issues and national policies. Born in Washington, D.C., and residing in Carmel Valley, he carries forward a legacy of public service following his father, Leon Panetta, who notably served as the U.S. Secretary of Defense.
