Rep. Jimmy Panetta, a U.S. Congressman representing California’s 19th district since 2017, used social media on October 15, 2025, to urge action on reopening the government and safeguarding healthcare services.
In a post made at 19:47 UTC, Panetta wrote, “Today, we are in DC to highlight the need to reopen the government and protect our healthcare. I was proud to stand with parents, caretakers, and patients who told their stories about how cuts to healthcare will impact them.”
An hour later, Panetta addressed House leadership directly, stating on October 15, 2025, at 20:47 UTC, “We are calling on Speaker Johnson to call the House of Representatives back into session so we can start negotiating and protect our healthcare. We have to reopen the government, protect our healthcare, and reduce the high cost of living.”
Later that evening, Panetta highlighted his continued engagement with constituents, posting at 22:24 UTC, “Proud to have hosted my 23rd town hall this year, this time with Rep. Lofgren of CA-18. Always meaningful and impactful for everybody when we can engage in civil, transparent, and productive conversation. Thanks to those who joined.”
Panetta has represented California’s 19th district since replacing Sam Farr in 2017. Born in Washington, D.C., in 1969, he currently resides in Carmel Valley. He is an alumnus of the University of California, Davis, where he earned a BA in 1991, and Santa Clara University, where he received his JD in 1996.
