Rep. Jimmy Panetta, currently serving in the U.S. Congress and representing California’s 19th district since 2017, shared insights through a series of tweets concerning veteran support and administrative actions. The tweets were posted on June 7 and June 8, 2025.
On June 7, Panetta expressed his gratitude for engaging with local veterans about their ongoing efforts to enhance support for disabled and transitioning veterans. He emphasized the importance of ensuring that these veterans receive the benefits and opportunities they have earned. “Grateful to hear from local veterans about efforts to better support disabled and transitioning veterans to ensure they get the benefits and opportunities they’ve earned.”
The following day, Panetta criticized the administration’s deportation practices, highlighting their impact on families and communities. He described the deportation sweeps as chaotic and inconsistent, expressing concern over their effect on law-abiding working families. “This Administration’s chaotic and inconsistent deportation sweeps are hurting law-abiding working families and communities.” He further addressed the administration’s decision to deploy the National Guard without local officials’ requests, suggesting it was an attempt to provoke confrontations. “The Administration’s decision to mobilize the National Guard, without the request of local officials, is unwarranted and an attempt to provoke violent confrontations.”
In addition to his congressional service, Panetta has a background rooted in public service; he was born in Washington D.C., educated at UC Davis with a BA in 1991, followed by earning his JD from Santa Clara University in 1996.
