Jimmy Panetta, a U.S. Congressman representing California’s 19th district since 2017, recently shared his views on several issues via social media. Born in Washington, D.C., and currently residing in Carmel Valley, Panetta has been vocal about policies affecting his constituents.
On March 21, 2025, Panetta criticized the Social Security Administration’s new rule requiring in-person or online verification for phone changes. He expressed concern that this measure would negatively impact seniors, people with disabilities, and families dependent on these benefits. “The Social Security Administration’s new rule blocking phone changes and forcing in-person or online verification will hurt seniors, people with disabilities, and families who rely on these benefits. I oppose this shortsighted move, and I’ll fight to protect access to the”.
Later that day, Panetta addressed the issue of mass terminations within federal agencies under the current administration and DOGE. He highlighted the challenges faced by federal employees who are essential to providing necessary services to communities. “I listened to federal employees caught in the chaos of mass terminations by this Administration and DOGE. These hardworking public servants provide our us with the services necessary for our community to endure.”
