Rep. Jimmy Panetta, who has been serving in the U.S. Congress representing California’s 19th District since 2017, expressed his concerns and positions on various issues through a series of tweets on June 2, 2025.
In a post made at 17:06 UTC, Rep. Panetta condemned a violent antisemitic attack in Boulder that resulted in injuries to individuals advocating for the release of Israeli hostages from Hamas captivity. He emphasized that “there is no justification for this kind of targeted hate” and highlighted the need for awareness about the rising trend of such incidents.
Later that day, at 18:30 UTC, Panetta addressed the implications of an administrative decision to cancel the BRIC program. He stated that this action threatens over $1 billion in disaster resilience funding for California. He led a bipartisan coalition urging its reinstatement, stressing that “investing in resilient infrastructure not only saves money in the long run, but it also saves lives.”
At 20:30 UTC, Panetta turned his attention to looting during disasters, describing it as a national issue causing additional harm to those already affected by crises. To address this problem, he authored the bipartisan LOOTER Act, which proposes federal penalties for theft during declared emergencies and aims to enhance law enforcement capabilities to better protect communities (source).
Jimmy Panetta was born in Washington D.C., and currently resides in Carmel Valley. He graduated with a BA from the University of California, Davis in 1991 and earned his JD from Santa Clara University in 1996.
