Rep. Jimmy Panetta, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing California’s 19th district, shared a series of updates on social media on May 5, 2025. His posts reflect his involvement in legislative matters and community issues.
On May 5, Rep. Panetta announced that he “joined 182 of my colleagues in filing an amicus brief with the U.S. Supreme Court to stand up for the 14th Amendment and our Constitution.” This action underscores his commitment to constitutional principles.
In another post later that day, Panetta remarked on Veterans Day by stating “Veterans Day honors the service and sacrifice of all who wore the uniform. Their service matters, its shaped our country, and any attempt to erase it cannot be tolerated.” He emphasized the importance of recognizing veterans’ contributions to the nation.
Finally, addressing a local issue in Santa Cruz, Panetta highlighted the case of Cliona Ward. On May 5, he noted that “Cliona Ward has lived in Santa Cruz for 30 years as a legal permanent resident. She’s now detained due to a decades-old drug conviction, despite rebuilding her life and contributing to our community.” He expressed his efforts in collaboration with Irish officials for a bilateral approach concerning her situation.
Jimmy Panetta was born in Washington D.C., resides in Carmel Valley, graduated from UC Davis with a BA in 1991 and obtained his JD from Santa Clara University in 1996.
