Rep. Jimmy Panetta, representing California’s 19th district in the U.S. Congress since 2017, has recently taken to social media to discuss various topics from community development to economic concerns. His tweets outline visits to local sites and articulate his stance on pressing national issues.
On April 15, 2025, Panetta shared a visit to the Carmel Youth Center, a location from his youth where he both spent time and exercised. He noted its transformation, stating that “Visited the Carmel Youth Center, a place where I used to hang out and work out when I was younger. Now, revamped and looking good, it’s a place for after-school care, excursions, and a new preschool program. CYC continues to lift up the next generation.”
Later the same day, Panetta addressed economic policy issues on social media, criticizing the President’s tariff decisions. He expressed concern by saying, “The President’s tariffs are an economic emergency of his own making by raising prices, hurting families, and risking recession. My colleagues and I are planning to force a vote to end this abuse of power.”
Panetta also participated in a community ceremony on April 15, 2025, during which tributes were paid to individuals lost to violence. He tweeted, “During this community ceremony, we heard the names, stories, and legacies of those lost to violence, including young Azahel Cruz. Their memories fuel our resolve to support victims, support law enforcement, strengthen communities, and prevent future tragedies.”
Panetta, who was born in Washington, D.C., in 1969 and currently resides in Carmel Valley, highlights his ongoing commitment to civic engagement and legislative responsibilities. He holds a BA from the University of California, Davis, and a JD from Santa Clara University.
