Rep. Jimmy Panetta, representing California’s 19th district in the U.S. Congress since 2017, recently shared several legislative and policy concerns on social media. Panetta, born in Washington, D.C., holds a BA from the University of California, Davis and a JD from Santa Clara University. He resides in Carmel Valley.
On May 3, 2025, Panetta announced his involvement in introducing the bipartisan SAFE Act. According to his post, “I helped introduce the bipartisan SAFE Act that would ensure that during an animal disease outbreak, unaffected regions can still export agricultural goods.” He emphasized that this legislation aims to protect producers and secure global market access while strengthening the food supply chain.
Two days later, on May 5, 2025, Panetta expressed concerns about housing affordability and mortgage insurance costs through another social media post. He stated “Buying a home is hard enough in today’s market, mortgage insurance costs shouldn’t make it harder.” Highlighting his role as a co-leader of the bipartisan Middle Class Mortgage Insurance Premium Act, he mentioned its purpose to modernize tax codes and provide relief for working families.
Later on May 5th, Panetta critiqued the Administration’s budget proposal via another post. He commented “The Administration’s budget would cut support for our teachers…and more.” The Congressman argued that such cuts undermine future-facing investments and stressed the need for congressional action.
