Representative Jimmy Panetta, who has served California’s 19th district in the U.S. Congress since 2017, recently shared updates on his legislative activities and constituent services through a series of posts on social media. Panetta, a Carmel Valley resident and graduate of UC Davis and Santa Clara University, highlighted both local and national issues affecting his district.
On July 14, 2025, Panetta addressed a case involving a constituent experiencing delays with Social Security payments. He stated, “A constituent was left in limbo waiting for Social Security payments. After six days of advocacy, I got it fixed. Their benefits are now approved and on the way. While others distract, I stay focused on helping people.”
The following day, July 15, 2025, Panetta discussed the outcome of his latest public forum: “At my 20th town hall, we dug into the consequences of the reconciliation tax bill, including cuts to care, fewer resources for working families, and more debt for the next generation. Thank you everyone for your questions, ideas, and determination to work together toward”.
Later that same day, Panetta reflected on historical injustices related to federal law enforcement during World War II: “The Alien Enemies Act was abused during World War II to justify the mass incarceration of Japanese Americans, including hundreds from right here on the Monterey Peninsula. We know the pain and injustice that followed. That’s why I’m concerned by this Administration’s effort to”.
Jimmy Panetta succeeded Sam Farr in Congress in 2017 and has continued to represent his district while residing in Carmel Valley at age 53. He was born in Washington D.C., earned a BA from UC Davis in 1991 and a JD from Santa Clara University in 1996.
